Global Textile Industry

Since clothing falls in the basic needs of human beings, therefore textile industry is one of the growing industries across the world in human expertise, product quality, technology and consumers’ demand for innovation. Today the major challenges industry face are of social responsibility i.e. being friendly to the environment in the form of Green industry and Eco friendly standards and also by providing consumers with defect-free quality product under obligations from quality assurance organizations like WTO, ANSI and Acceptable Quality Level but they are also hard to maintain as compliances and safety standards do face continuous revisions.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) has issued its review for year 2017 with the name of World Trade Statistical Review which has disclosed global textile industry successfully maintained its exports of worth $284 billion in the year 2016 which was 2.3% declined from the year 2015 exports like the exports from other markets decrease in 2016 as of commodity market, fuels market and the merchandise market.

The global textile share is basically comprised of two market producers, one is the developed markets from developed countries other is the emerging markets from underdeveloped countries. The share from developed markets is observed to be decreasing as found in case of H&M – clothing company from Sweden announced a 2% decrease in its growth in the year 2017 due which it has plans to close its many stores in the year 2018. On the other hand, emerging markets are found to increase their sale as Pakistan made its number to the 9th country in the list of global textile exports whereas India ranked 3rd and China ranked 1st in the year 2016 which means these markets have already replaced developed markets.

The textile industry is said to face two major technological setbacks at the time among which one is to enhance the online sales and other is of automation and both of these tasks are technological failures of the companies as not being initiative in these two modes can make them to face more declines in their annual growth.  One real-time example is of Amazon who has planned to invest more in online wardrobes in 2018 which is an alarming situation for low performers.

Quality Inspection in Textile Industry

Maintaining good quality continuously is not an easy task for the textile industry since this process needs proper management and quality standards. The quality management practically deals with monitoring all the activities involved in before and after production of a product in order to maintain the targeted specifications of the product.

“Quality Control” itself is a procedure that describes and finalizes standards that are observed later in quality management. Quality control ensures that end product meets consumer requirements. This is only possible by proper quality inspection in the form of selective or random sample tests of fabric, color, patterns etc. at all stages of production. One such domain of inspection is the Total Quality Management (TQM) under which all employees aim to work together to make sure customer satisfaction and business success by providing quality products to the consumers that payback business with profit, the customer with satisfaction and society with social development.

Benefits of quality inspection in textile industry

Quality Control brings following disadvantages to the textile industries

  • Only specialized inspectors can check quality and individual workers don’t understand the faults occurring due to their negligence
  • Rejected products are either wasted or sold at cheaper rates causing company financial and reputational losses
  • Reworking on defaulted product causes time, human resource and financial loss to the company
  • The defect levels increase and cause company suffer until the root cause is not detected properly
